Every issue comes with steps to fix it in the tool your site is built with, such as WordPress or Shopify. When you're done, Obelisk checks the pages again so you know the fix worked.
Open How to fix
- Open Issues in the sidebar and click an issue.
- In the panel, scroll to How to fix.
- Read What to change first. It says what needs to be different.
If we've already written a suggestion for a page, such as a new page title, it appears under Suggested.
Steps for your platform
We look at your site to work out what it's built with. The panel says "Your site is built with Shopify." when we're sure, or "Your site looks like it is built with Webflow." when it's likely. Hover over How we know to see the signs we found.
Below that, Steps for lets you switch between WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Next.js and Other. Your platform is picked for you. If we couldn't tell, choose yours, or use the steps under Other.
Each platform shows numbered steps that say where to click. When the platform handles something for you, the panel says so, for example "Shopify looks after this for you." Press Official guide to open the platform's own help page in a new tab.
Hand it to your developer
Some fixes need a change to the site's code.
- For your developer shows the exact code, with your site's address already filled in. Press Copy code and send it to them.
- Copy as ticket copies the issue's check code and the addresses of the affected pages, so you can paste them into your team's task tool or an email.
Mark fixed and check
When the change is live, press Mark fixed at the bottom of the panel. We check every affected page again straight away and show the progress, then one result:
- "Fixed on all 23 pages.": the issue moves to Fixed and Site health updates.
- "Fixed on 20 of 23 pages. 3 still need work.": the issue stays in To fix. Fix the rest, then press Check again.
- "Still there on all 23 pages.": changes can take a few minutes to go live, or your site may still be showing an older copy. Wait a little, then press Check again.
- "We couldn't check 3, so we'll confirm them on the next audit.": the issue shows Waiting to confirm. Press Check now to try again.
Let Obelisk make the change
If your site is connected under Where agents can publish on your site's Connections page, Obelisk can make some changes for you, such as updating a page's SEO title in WordPress or Webflow, or opening a pull request on GitHub. Publishing to WordPress, Webflow and GitHub comes with the Pro, Team and Agency plans.
Nothing changes until someone approves it. When Obelisk wants to make a change, a card says Obelisk wants to make a change and shows what the page has Now and what it will have After this change. Choose Approve, Edit to change the values first, or Not now. Only an Owner or Admin can approve. Every approved change is listed under Actions in Chat, where you can Undo it. See Agents, approvals and spend caps.
If something goes wrong
- "This problem is already being checked.": wait for the current check to finish.
- "Wait before checking this page again.": you checked very recently. Try again in a minute.
